Key's work excavates the lineage and history of his identity through intersecting themes of: Southernness, Blackness, Queerness, and Family. Borrowing from design history and principles, Key contorted hard lined figures are brushed with family histories reflected in Polka Dots and plaids across the surface of his works.
For this new print, Waiting for You (2024), edition of 75, Key depicts a figure sitting at a table that’s fashioned off a café in Margate and he’s waiting for someone to join him. The figure in the print is a character of the artist himself, the man in the violet suit. This print has been created using Key signature limited colour palette and patterns which are inspired by his own personal stories, histories and memories.
